Swimming/Pool Safety

Swimming is great  fun on hot days

Swim Safely!

BEFORE Swimming:

  • Apply SUNSCREEN, even on cloudy days.  (SPF 15 or higher every 2 hours)

  • Wear a life jacket that fits you right when around any water.

  • Do not trust air-filled water wings, toys, or inner tubes to keep you safe.

  • Check to make sure you are swimming in the correct swimming area and check for hazards (such as jelly fish or large waves).

  • Make sure you have a buddy to swim with and a parent watching you.

  • Take swimming lessons to learn how to swim.

Safe Swimming Tips:

  • Stay away from pool/spa drains.

  • Tie long hair up to make sure you don’t get trapped in the drain.

  • NEVER dive into water less than 9 feet deep water where you cannot see the bottom.

  • If you get a cramp or tired, roll over and float on your back to rest.

  • If you get caught in the current, DO NOT FIGHT IT.  RELAX and swim parallel to the shore until the current weakens and you can swim to shore another way.
